WISE is a not for profit, community interest company whose purpose is gender balance across UK STEM in industry and education. WISE is a membership organisation which generates its own income through B2B products and services to an increasing number of members, partners and commercial clients. The Events Officer is a fantastic opportunity to work in a high-profile national organisation where you can make a difference to society.

The Events Officer will support the Head of Products & Services and work closely with the Head of Marketing to develop, lead and deliver the annual WISE Conference and WISE member events programme including workshops, KSE, panels and webinars.

The role requires excellent event and project management skills with the ability to create large scale, dynamic and exciting events. WISE has a Royal Patron, HRH The Princess Royal who attends and speaks at WISE events where a range of people attend – from students and apprentices to Chairman, CEOs and company directors, university and college lecturers, trade union representatives, voluntary sector representatives, government officials and politicians as well as the media. 

The Events Officer will be a key member of the WISE Products & Services Team and work closely with the other Relationship Management, Business Development and Marketing Teams.


Salary; £27,817.31 per annum (£22,554.40 pro rata, based on 30 hours per week)

Plus 5% pension contribution for eligible employees.  London weighting of £2,500 where applicable. 


Place of work will be home-based, with the flexibility to attend meetings and events off-site as required. Home-based workers need to ensure they have a reasonable space in which to work with adequate security and privacy, with an internet connection capable of supporting work systems.


The post is part-time with hours of work at 30 hours per week.

The candidate must be willing to work during school holidays.

25 days holiday per annum pro rata plus bank holidays pro rata.

Job description

  1. Plan, lead, develop and deliver all WISE events including the annual conference, member webinars and all WISE Ten Steps events.
  2. Manage events execution (physical, digital and hybrid events), ensuring that event logistics run seamlessly and with appropriate contingency plans.
  3. Actively seeking new methods to align the curated events programme with the organisation’s commercial and strategic goals
  4. Researching and conceptualising topics, content and speakers to create the most relevant discussions, often with a deep sector focus pitched to a highly targeted audience
  5. Effectively engage and liaise with external stakeholders including sponsors, members, partners, speakers, suppliers, ambassadors and WISE patron, HRH The Princess Royal, to manage the delivery of events.
  6. Successfully manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure event management and projects are delivered according to agreed requirements, timelines, and budget.
  7. Plan events strategy and pipeline, ensuring events are creative, innovative, and support business aims and objectives
  8. Collate and report event and project feedback and insight from WISE event stakeholders.
  9. Work closely with other WISE teams to create marketing content to support all events including content for the WISE website, emails to members and prospects and social media.
  10. Work with WISE Team to deliver compelling promotional content for WISE members and external prospects.
  11. Work closely with the Relationship Management and Business Development teams to action and incorporate insight/feedback for the development of an effective programme of events for members to share knowledge and best practice.
  12. Generate high quality leads to meet KPIs through attending and organising select events.
  13. Maintain accurate records on CRM and for use in reports to the management team and Board.
  14. Undertake any other relevant duties as required.

The person

Successful track record in:

  • Event management and operational delivery of projects in a customer-based industry, such as, consultancy, training or another relevant sector
  • Leading and developing projects in a B2B environment
  • Proven experience of leading on collaborative, partnership engagements
  • STEM sector knowledge
  • Developing and delivering projects to meet needs of clients
  • Writing and delivering project documentation and reports
  • Understanding and analysing datasets to evaluate business needs and support member recommendations
  • Using excellent organisational skills to successfully deliver projects
  • Enthusiasm for, and understanding of, the WISE cause 


  • Excellent literacy, numeracy, written and spoken English
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills
  • Excellent research and analytical skills with ability to interpret and present large dataset for a wider audience
  • Good relationship-management skills
  • A proven ability to develop creative and imaginative ideas
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office


  • A self-starter, able to use their initiative and work with minimal supervision

  • Flexibility to work on a variety of projects at any one time and to respond to changing priorities
