The Director of Advancement Services oversees operation of the Advancement Services Team, ensuring the highest standards for data integrity for all constituent and financial records.  The individual manages gift recording and processing, including supervision of two data and gifts specialists.  As the senior database administrator at the university, the individual is responsible for improving overall data quality and reporting for the Development and Alumni Relations Teams.  This individual trains new users of the database and works to improve database functionality for current users. A senior member of the Development Office, this position contributes to the planning, strategic direction, personnel development, and leadership of the unit. Represents the team when required and undertakes a portfolio of special and advanced projects as assigned.

Full COVID vaccination is required for all on-campus employment.

Salary:  $58,000 or higher, depending on experience.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise two data and gifts specialists who are responsible for gift entry and database updates.
  • Deploy department budget appropriately and strategically.
  • Serve as backup for gift entry and deposits.
  •  Oversee relationship with CRM provider, including contract management, researching and recommending new tools to improve workflow and/or user experience.
  • Ensure gifts are acknowledged on-time and efficiently. 
  • Data Management
  • Import, export, manipulate and convert data using database and programming tools (i.e. Import-0-Matic, Blackbaud import, MS Excel) and document those procedures.
  • Identify and implement best practices for data management for a wide variety of needs including updating and maintaining data related to committee assignments, volunteers, etc.
  • Serve as primary liaison from Advancement Services to manage data projects and integrity between Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud NetCommunity (BBNC).
  • Write complex queries, exports, and reports for use by DAC staff and institutional leadership.

Database Management

  • Oversee records management. Oversee data updates and monitor data integrity.
  • Supervise layout and configuration of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge database and NetCommunity. Manage special projects and systems maintenance as assigned.
  • Oversee training, orientation, and setup of all new users including DAC colleagues, work-study students, and staff with other departments as necessary.
  • Seek out new products for efficient data cleansing and maintenance.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; 5 years of related work experience, including supervising a complex team.
  • Track record of successful project management and exceptional customer services skills.
  • Strong computing and technical skills, including familiarity with a networked environment, Microsoft Office, relational databases, and other applications.
  • Knowledge of Norwich University's history, environment and academic culture a plus.
