Engineer I/Engineer II – Inflight Physiological Sensing Development
You will work alongside engineers and software developers to provide technologies that increase the safety and capabilities of United States Air Force pilots by optimizing human performance in the next generation of Air Force systems. This also gives you the ability to be involved in the entire development process: conceiving solutions, designing prototypes, implementing architectures, and integrating with other systems. What You’ll Do:
- Integrate and develop custom software and hardware solutions to support wearable technologies including mobile computing, a wide variety of miniaturized physiological, environmental, and life support system sensors and devices to enhance airman safety and performance in the field or flight.
- Execute full lifecycle development including requirements, design, development, test and evaluation, verification and validation, and maintenance.
- Implement development process improvements working in coordination with program management and the principal engineer including establish automated tests, performing reviews, bug tracking, and maintaining configuration management.
- Develop documentation including elements of the program Technical Data Package.
- Interface with Air Force researchers and operational personnel to understand requirements.
- Identify, integrate, and evaluate optimal hardware and software solutions to meet development objectives.
- Design, develop, test, and integrate software algorithms and tools for data processing systems.
- Design, develop, test, and integrate prototype electronic systems.
- Communicate with engineers and project managers to develop thorough designs and development plans.
- Support flight and field testing.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
- Engineer I – BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
- Engineer II - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or electrical engineering preferred.
- At least 3 years active Python development experience including utilizing the following in Python: Multiprocessing, Bluetooth, Serial, D-Bus, ZeroMQ preferred.
- Development experience on resource constrained single board computers, Linux, Raspberry Pi.
- Experience in the following areas is highly desired: Electronics design, prototyping, and assembly, physiological monitoring and wearables, mobile development experience in Android / iOS, signal processing, GUI development, Python Flask.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR ENGINEER I: $88,500 - $109,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR ENGINEER II: $108,000 - $133,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
